At UdeM, the language of instruction and administration is French.
The university is nevertheless accepting a growing number of non-francophone applicants, thereby providing them with the opportunity to pursue disciplinary studies in an enriching French-immersion context in Montréal, North America’s largest cosmopolitan city.
The French test required upon admission is designed to measure the knowledge of oral and written French of the applicant whose previous studies were not entirely pursued in a French-speaking context.
There are also tests designed to evaluate the proficiency of written French of candidates applying for admission to certain programs or of already accepted candidates.

Université de Montréal has defined a regulatory framework with respect to the French language in the programs. In particular, it has established the required degree of French, according to the programs, for students who are applying for admission and who have not pursued their previous studies in French.
The university offers support measures to students who have proven that they have the basic knowledge required to be accepted, but who need to improve their practical knowledge of French in order to embark on their chosen program of study with the best chances for success.
